The biggest individual donor supporting Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis in his campaign for the Republican 2024 presidential race said he would not be giving more funds unless big changes are made.
Robert Bigelow, DeSantis’ biggest donor by a landslide, donated $20 million to the pro-DeSantis “Never Back Down” PAC in the spring.
Bigelow said unless the governor makes a more moderate shift to attract new donors, he will discontinue giving.
“He does need to shift to get moderates,” Bigelow said. “He’ll lose if he doesn’t. Extremism isn’t going to get you elected.”
From The Hill:
When asked what led him to the decision to curb funding, the entrepreneur pointed to what he called the governor’s “extreme positions” on policy, including the six-week abortion ban DeSantis signed into law in April. He claimed six weeks is too short, as many women don’t know they are pregnant at that stage, according to Reuters.
