Donald Trump’s legal team met with the Justice Department for Special Counsel Jack Smith’s investigation, saying they had a “productive meeting.”
The legal team told Trump that prosecutors did not indicate there would be a forthcoming indictment pertaining to Trump’s moves to challenge the 2020 election.
“My attorneys had a productive meeting with the DOJ this morning, explaining in detail that I did nothing wrong, was advised by many lawyers, and that an Indictment of me would only further destroy our Country,” Trump posted on Truth Social.
He continued, “No indication of notice was given during the meeting — Do not trust the Fake News on anything!”
A court official later said that no indictments are expected.
The matter first garnered attention when Trump noted he had received a letter from the Justice Department.
Such a letter often suggests prosecutors are seeking an indictment.
Reporting from Just the News:
Trump was indicted last month on 37 counts related to the handling of classified documents in another probe led by Smith. He pleaded not guilty to all charges. The former president said last week that the Justice Department said he is a target in the 2020 election probe, which is focusing on efforts to challenge President Biden's win and the Jan. 6 Capitol riot.
