Security for Special Counsel Jack Smith, Family Cost Taxpayers Millions

Security for Biden’s prosecutor in ongoing Trump cases, Special Counsel Jack Smith, cost taxpayers $2 million.

Smith has used the U.S. Marshals Service to protect himself and his family since being threatened.

In the first four months of the case, security costs were $1.9 million.

The total costs for the investigation during that time were $9.2 million.

It is expected that the Department of Justice (DOJ) will spend at least $25 million per year on the investigation.

According to former US attorney Timothy J Heaphy, Smith’s investigation “is actually pretty cheap considering the momentous nature of the charges.”

Smith initially said the trial would be “speedy,” although legal experts have said the proceedings may be “lengthy.”

Reporting from The Post Millennial:

Trump has been hit with a slew of charges relating to his alleged mishandling of classified documents, boxes of which were discovered at his Florida residence in August 2022. He currently faces 31 counts of willful retention of national defense information, and six further charges including conspiracy to obstruct justice, and withholding a document or record.

While the DOJ's charges fall under the Espionage Act, Trump's attorneys have repeatedly cited the Presidential Records Act, which gives commanders-in-chief the authority to determine which records in their possession are personal and which they'd like to have placed in the National Archives.
