Department of Defense Allows Trans Service Members to Receive Physical Fitness Waiver

A newly publically-available document from the Department of Defense (DOD) describes the “care of service members who identify as transgender.”

Jordan Schachtel from The Dossier was the first to release the 34-page document.

The document’s purpose is to “ensure all service members who identify as transgender are cared for by clinicians who are qualified to deliver safe healthcare that is culturally sensitive within generally accepted standards.”

Some of the “care” given to transgender individuals in the military include voice therapy, facial and body contouring, provision of cross-sex hormones, surgeries, and other forms of “care.”

The document also describes waivers being given to transgender service members for grooming and physical fitness standards.

To maintain the indefinite fitness waiver, the individual must renew the exemption every six months.

Transgender individuals taking hormones are considered to be “non-deployable” for 300 days, according to the document.

Reporting from The Dossier:

The United States military is facing its worst recruiting environment since 1973, when the conscription era ended and the current all-volunteer force was formed. As the Defense Department memo makes clear, the U.S. military in 2023 represents more of a social welfare and social justice program than an entity purposed with defeating an aggressing army.
