Former President Donald Trump has filed a federal lawsuit against his ex-lawyer Michael Cohen for over $500 million, citing multiple breaches of fiduciary duty, unjust enrichment, conversion, and breaches of contract, according to an exclusive report from Fox News.
The 30-page lawsuit was filed in the U.S. District Court for the Southern District of Florida and alleges that Cohen breached his attorney-client relationship by spreading false information about Trump, which was “likely to be embarrassing or detrimental.”
Additionally, the suit claims that Cohen violated the terms of a confidentiality agreement he signed as a condition of his employment with Trump.
“This is an action arising from [Cohen’s] multiple breaches of fiduciary duty, unjust enrichment, conversion and breaches of contract by virtue of [Cohen’s] past service as [Trump’s] employee and attorney,” the lawsuit reads.
It details Cohen’s numerous public statements, including two books, a podcast series, and various mainstream media appearances, while ignoring cease and desist orders, Fox notes.
Trump’s legal team asserts that he has “suffered vast reputational harm” as a direct result of Cohen’s actions.
This lawsuit is unrelated to the 34 felony counts of falsifying business records in New York that Trump is currently facing in connection with alleged hush money payments made before the 2016 presidential election.
