California Governor Gavin Newsom has made history appointing an openly transgender judge.

- Andi Mudryk will now move from the position of Chief Deputy Director at California’s Department of Rehabilitation to serve on the Sacramento County Superior Court.

- Mudryk is the second transgender judge to serve the state, with the first being Alameda Superior Court Judge Victoria Kolakowski who was elected in 2020.
