Cartel Gun Battle in Border City Nuevo Laredo

Nuevo Laredo, a town physically connected to Laredo, Texas, on Mexico’s side of the border, was the scene of a battle between three warring Mexican Cartels on Sunday evening.
Repercussions of the battle have caused the United States Consulate in Nuevo Laredo, Mexico to temporarily close, according to Reuters.
Both employees of the consulate and local residents were instructed to shelter in place by the United States and Mexican governments as the bullets flew.
Mexican military premises were also hit during the gunfighting, according to the ministry of public security in the Mexican state of Tamaulipas

The National File reported that the fights were prompted when Juan Gerardo Trevino, or “El Huevo,” believed to be an influential cartel leader, was arrested on Sunday.
El Huevo’s removal arrest caused a turf war between gangs who seemed to believe there was a power vacuum, according to U.S. Rep. Henry Cueller (D-TX).
Cueller, whose hometown is Laredo, Texas, told Border Report the violence came about when one of the three groups was triggered because of an old-fashioned power struggle.
The Texas lawmaker said that “one group is not happy because they got their leader and the other two groups are saying ‘Is there a vacuum here because we might need to come in?’”

Troubles at the border are only mounting as rumors begin to grow that a wave of around 70,000 migrants head toward the United States.
According to Town Hall, the group is currently in southern Mexico and expected to be released toward the United States border within days as migrants apply for Mexican humanitarian visas from there, which would allow them to proceed unchecked to the American border.
