83% of Americans View Current Economy Negatively: Gallup Survey

A recent survey conducted by Gallup has revealed that the majority of Americans view the current state of the economy in a negative light.

In March, 83% of respondents described the economic conditions as “only fair” or “poor,” with only 16% considering them to be “excellent” or “good.”

These views were found to be highly stable throughout the first quarter of the year and matched the results found in January and February.

The survey measured Americans’ views on the economy through a combination of their rating of current economic conditions and their perception of the economy’s direction.

The resulting Economic Confidence Index was -38, indicating a deeply negative sentiment towards the economy.

The survey found that inflation continues to be the biggest specific economic concern for Americans, with 12% of respondents citing it as the most important problem facing the country.

However, twice as many Americans (67%) cited a non-economic issue as the leading problem, with various aspects of government or leadership being the most common set of responses.

With economic confidence still deeply negative and concerns about government, inflation, and immigration relatively high, Americans’ satisfaction with the direction of the country remains scarce.

Only 19% of respondents reported being satisfied, while 80% were dissatisfied.
