7 in 10 French Want Peace Between Russia, Ukraine

According to a new opinion poll conducted by Ifop, the majority of French people support peace talks between Ukraine and Russia while also arming Ukraine, as opposed to only arming Ukraine.

The survey found that seven out of ten respondents favored this approach, with support ranging from 57% among supporters of the Socialist Party to 88% among those who voted for conservative political commentator and presidential candidate Eric Zemmour.

The option of simply providing military aid until Ukraine can defeat Russia was not included in the poll.

President Emmanuel Macron’s Renaissance Party also had strong support for peace talks at 60%.

The poll also revealed that certain social groups in France were particularly inclined towards a diplomatic solution, including women (73%), people aged 25 to 34 (75%), public sector employees (73%), and residents of rural areas (72%).

In terms of predicting the outcome of the conflict, the poll found that the French public is uncertain about the future.

Only 21% said they expected the Ukrainian crisis to be resolved before 2024, while 46% did not give a deadline.

However, the number of people worried about the conflict has decreased from 92% in March to 83% in the current month.
