QUICK FACTS:

- “Across sectors, we’re seeing the amount of fentanyl coming across the border almost doubling,” U.S. Border Patrol Agent Mark Dunbar said, who works at the Murrieta Station in southern California. “What we’re seeing coming across is equal to the amount of Americans who are dying from it in the U.S.”
- “We’re now finding that they’re making the [fentanyl] pills here,” Riverside California County Sheriff Chad Bianco said. “Two years ago, they were making it all in Mexico. They’re not trying to kill their clients, it’s just that it’s unbelievably addicting.”
BACKGROUND:
- While a large portion of the fentanyl that makes it to the United States comes from Mexico, China is a major contributor.
- Investigations into the origins of the deadly drug have found that most of the drug making it to the United States is flown from China to drug cartels and then trafficked across the border, as noted by the Senate.
