Four in ten Democrats support the idea of removing statues of the first president of the United States, George Washington.
According to a survey from Rasmussen Reports, 21% of Democrats “strongly” support removing statues of Washington.
Forty percent of Democrats somewhat support the idea.
Among Republicans, 19% approve of removing the first president’s statue.
The poll found that 27% of all participants somewhat approve of removing statues of George Washington.
Last year, students at George Washington University called for the removal of a George Washington statue.
The Black Student Union declared the first president “an enslaver of men” at the University of Washington in Seattle and organized a protest.
The statue is frequently defaced with graffiti, the university’s newspaper, The Daily, said.
