An 11-year-old boy named Kevin Ouda was struck by a car on December 21, 2024, while running with his Muay Thai teammates near El Cajon, California. The incident occurred on North First Street when a dog lunged at the group, causing Kevin to step back into the street, where he was hit by a vehicle driven by a 74-year-old man.
Kevin was transported to Rady Children’s Hospital and underwent emergency brain surgery. Despite initial hopes, he was declared brain dead after two tests. His family made the difficult decision to remove him from life support on December 28, 2024.
Kevin was a dedicated martial arts student at Pure Heart Muay Thai, known for his commitment and focus. He had been training for an upcoming fight in January and had previously won a Muay Thai championship belt after a short period of training.
In the wake of this tragedy, a GoFundMe campaign has been established to support Kevin’s family during this difficult time. The California Highway Patrol is investigating the incident, and while drugs or alcohol were not factors, it’s unclear if the driver will face any charges.
This heartbreaking event has deeply affected Kevin’s family, friends, and the local community, who remember him as an ideal and model student with a strong heart and spirit.
