President Donald Trump and First Lady Melania Trump honored military mothers during a White House event.
Mrs. Trump said in her remarks during the event that military mothers “find themselves alone, awake in their thoughts, in the darkest hours of the night.”
“Of course, we must also remember the mothers with a spouse overseas, praying for a safe return so their family can become whole once again,” she noted.
“At the very heart of America’s strength lies the boundless love and quiet power of mothers. We are the most devoted teachers—gently nurturing empathy, inspiring dreams, and guiding our children towards goodness,” the first lady said. “We help them rise with courage when life grows difficult. In every hug, every story read at bedtime, and every sacrifice made without complaint, mothers build the moral foundation of our families.”
President Trump said in his remarks that the women in attendance “have sacrificed for our country in countless ways.” He added that the mothers “do it all because you love America. You love our country.”
Last year, Mrs. Trump celebrated mothers by encouraging them to “unite to honor the beauty of motherhood, champion the grace of our journey, and inspire those who follow.”
“A mother’s love and wisdom empower our children to flourish, instilling in them the courage to reach their fullest potential,” she said.
The event comes just days after the Pentagon presented medals to service members involved in last year’s shooting near the White House.
Army Maj. Ryan Reynolds received the Soldier’s Medal and Air Force Maj. Edwin Stanfield received the Airman’s Medal. Both are part of the West Virginia National Guard. The two guardsmen subdued a man who attacked two other West Virginia Guard members near the White House in November.
