The White House celebrated National Day of Prayer by honoring the nation’s “enduring tradition of prayer, faith, and trust in Almighty God” and pledging to “never forget the countless blessings God has bestowed upon our people and our country.”
Highlighting America’s history of honoring faith in God, the White House statement said this “proud birthright of faith moved our Nation to expand the promise of independence to the furthest reaches of our continent; preserve our Union in the midst of a bloody Civil War; abolish slavery; win two world wars; defeat the evil forces of atheistic communism; plant our Flag on the Moon; and advance truth, beauty, and goodness in our culture every single day.”
“This National Day of Prayer, we proudly recommit to our magnificent birthright of faith,” the statement declares, encouraging Americans to “come together today in prayer, reflecting on the many blessings God has given our Nation and asking for His continued protection, with ceremonies, events, and programs in their houses of worship and places of work, schools, and homes.”
House Speaker Mike Johnson (R-LA) participated in the National Day of Prayer, stating that “prayer has been a part of our DNA since the very beginning.”
“We boldly proclaimed the self-evident truth that our rights do not come from government, they come from God Himself,” Johnson said. “He is the One that has endowed us with our inalienable rights, that among those the rights to life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness.”
“Right there in the second paragraph of the nation’s birth certificate, it summarizes our national statement of faith,” he said. “The founders made that bold declaration and that was the foundation that made us become the most free, most successful, most powerful and most benevolent nation in the history of the planet.”
This year’s National Day of Prayer theme is “Glorify God Among the Nations, Seeking Him in All Generations.”
