Veterans Defend Army Parade Against Media Attacks

As the U.S. Army celebrates its 250th anniversary on Flag Day, veterans are pushing back against media attempts to label the event as a “Trump military parade” or authoritarian propaganda. The patriotic celebration in Washington, D.C., organized by President Donald Trump, honors the Army’s founding in 1775 and two and a half centuries of American military service.

The event, funded by Trump himself, includes reenactments, flyovers, fireworks, and participation by veterans, active-duty troops, Gold Star families, and other patriotic Americans. The White House emphasized that the celebration aims to inspire the next generation by showcasing the Army’s heritage and commitment to service.

Major media outlets have criticized the event, with Variety comparing it to military parades in authoritarian regimes and speculating about a lack of national TV coverage. Veterans, however, are outraged by what they view as disrespect toward the U.S. military.

“As a Vietnam Veteran and retired Army soldier, I’m absolutely disgusted,” said Brian Sullivan, a former FAA special agent. “They are so into TDS that they would give short shrift to the birthday of the U.S. Army.” Sullivan called the media’s portrayal shameful, noting that the very freedom journalists enjoy was secured by the sacrifices of American soldiers.

James Fitzpatrick, a former Army serviceman and director of the Center to Advance Security in America, applauded the celebration. “President Trump is celebrating the Army’s 250th birthday with a grand, patriotic parade,” he said, emphasizing the importance of honoring service and inspiring future soldiers.

Richard Welch, a U.S. Army veteran and oil executive, drew a sharp contrast between today’s critics and the dictatorship America fought against in 1775. “We still have the ability to criticize our government because of the brave men and women who serve. Without them, we’d be under tyranny like North Korea,” Welch stated.

Despite media narratives, the U.S. Army has reported strong recruiting numbers under the Trump administration, surpassing 85% of its 2025 goals. The military branches continue to attract new recruits amid the patriotic momentum.

While left-wing groups prepare protests against Trump’s immigration policies, veterans and military families are rallying in Washington to celebrate the Army’s legacy and honor those who serve. The White House and veterans alike view the event as a solemn, proud tribute to America’s enduring military strength—not a political spectacle.
