Vice President JD Vance is set to attend the premiere of a documentary series focusing on Christian dissidents during the Soviet era. The event, hosted by The Heritage Foundation, will take place on Tuesday. The series, produced by Angel Studios and based on Rod Dreher’s book “Live Not By Lies,” explores the experiences of Christians who resisted communist oppression in the USSR.
The documentary follows Dreher as he travels through Europe, interviewing survivors of Soviet persecution and highlighting their commitment to truth and faith. Producer R.J. Moeller emphasized the project’s goal: “We’re looking to inspire a new generation of people in the West and Americans in particular by reinforcing the idea that telling the truth is the best policy.”
Vice President Vance, a longtime friend of Dreher and supporter of the series, will deliver remarks prior to the screening. Heritage Foundation President Kevin Roberts will introduce Vance. Following the screening, Angel Studios President Jeff Harmon will moderate a discussion and Q&A session with Dreher and series director Isaiah Smallman.
“Vice President Vance has been supportive of this project for a while now. We’ve kept him in the loop. We let him know that there was going to be a screening in D.C., and he said, ‘I’d love to come out and support and help be a part of this,'” Moeller shared.
“He clearly cares about this issue at a deep level,” Moeller went on to add.
Vance, a Catholic, has been a vocal advocate for religious freedom both domestically and internationally. He recently served as the keynote speaker at the International Religious Freedom Summit and headlined the National Catholic Prayer Breakfast in February. His participation in the documentary premiere underscores his commitment to highlighting the stories of those who have suffered for their faith under oppressive regimes.
