Vance Announces New Position Amid Fraud Crackdown

Vice President JD Vance announced that the Trump administration is creating a new Assistant Attorney General position to investigate cases of fraud across the nation.

“We know that the fraud isn’t just happening in Minneapolis; it’s also happening in states like Ohio. It’s happening in states like California,” Vance said during a White House briefing. “What we’re doing in order to help coordinate this remarkable interagency effort from the Trump administration, but also to make sure that we prosecute the bad guys, and do it as swiftly and efficiently as possible, is we are creating a new assistant attorney general position who will have nationwide jurisdiction over the issue of fraud.”

“That person’s efforts will start and focus primarily in Minnesota – but it is going to be a nationwide effort, because unfortunately, the American people have been defrauded in a very nationwide way,” he stated.

The “interagency effort” described by Vance includes the Department of Agriculture, as it is reviewing cases of SNAP fraud.

“If you’re a young parent struggling to afford child care in the United States of America, there are programs that we have to make it easier for your kids to get in day care, for your kids to get in preschool,” Vance explained. “Those programs should go to American citizens, not be defrauded by Somali immigrants and others.”

Attorney General Pam Bondi thanked Vance for the announcement. “These deep-rooted fraud schemes rob American taxpayers, often while local officials fail to intervene. The problems in Minnesota are massive – but other states are on our radar too,” she wrote on X, adding that the Justice Department, under the leadership of President Trump and Vance, “stands ready to continue prosecuting fraudsters, unraveling structures that permit fraud, and holding bad actors accountable.”
