UK Ambassador to US Fired After Epstein Ties Exposed

UK Prime Minister Keir Starmer fired the country’s ambassador to the United States, Peter Mandelson, after emails exposed the official’s connections to Jeffrey Epstein.

“I think the world of you and I feel hopeless and furious about what has happened,” Mandelson allegedly wrote in an email to Epstein before he went to prison, Bloomberg reported. “I can still barely understand it. It just could not happen in Britain.”

The Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office announced Mandelson’s departure soon after the emails were released. “In light of the additional information in emails written by Peter Mandelson, the Prime Minister has asked the Foreign Secretary to withdraw him as Ambassador,” the office’s statement read.

“The emails show that the depth and extent of Peter Mandelson’s relationship with Jeffrey Epstein is materially different from that known at the time of his appointment,” the statement continued. “In particular Peter Mandelson’s suggestion that Jeffrey Epstein’s first conviction was wrongful and should be challenged is new information.”

“In light of that, and mindful of the victims of Epstein’s crimes, he has been withdrawn as Ambassador with immediate effect.”

The emails come as the House Oversight Committee Democrats released a birthday book belonging to Epstein. The Committee has also received documents from Epstein’s estate.

“It’s appalling Democrats on the Oversight Committee are cherry-picking documents and politicizing information received from the Epstein Estate today. Oversight Committee Republicans are focused on running a thorough investigation to bring transparency and accountability for survivors of Epstein’s heinous crimes and the American people,” said Chairman James Comer (R-KY). “President Trump is not accused of any wrongdoing and Democrats are ignoring the new information the Committee received today. The Committee will pursue additional Epstein bank records based on this new information. Democrats must decide if their priority is justice for the survivors or politics.”
