U.S. Capitol to Receive Johnny Cash Statue

A statue of musician Johnny Cash is going up in the U.S. Capitol.

Each U.S. state receives two statues to honor notable figures. Cash, a native of Arkansas, will be the state’s second statue. The other statue depicts civil rights activist Daisy Bates.

Congress declared that the “seated, invitation-only” National Statuary Hall Collection Statue Dedication Ceremony will take place on September 24.

The announcement was signed by House Speaker Mike Johnson (R-LA), Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer (D-NY), Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-KY), and House Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries (D-NY).

In May, a 7-foot tall statue of Rev. Billy Graham was erected at the U.S. Capitol.

The Billy Graham Evangelistic Association said the statue’s base features Bible verses that “highlight Graham’s lifelong commitment to sharing the Gospel.” These verses include John 3:16 and John 14:6.

A plaque reading “Preacher of the Gospel of Jesus Christ” is also seen on the statue.
