United Nations Investigating Alleged ‘War Crimes’ Committed by Iran, Israel

The United Nations (U.N.) announced that it is investigating “war crimes” committed by both Israel and Iran, the group claiming it had “serious evidence” that both countries have violated international law.

The U.N. Independent International Commission of Inquiry, leading the investigation, explained that it “has been collecting and preserving evidence of war crimes committed by all sides since 7 October 2023.”

According to a statement from the United Nations Human Rights Council (UNHRC), “The Commission is gravely concerned with Israel’s latest attack on Gaza and Israel’s announcement of a complete siege on Gaza involving the withholding of water, food, electricity and fuel which will undoubtfully cost civilian lives and constitutes collective punishment.”

“The Commission also calls for the unconditional and safe release of all individuals who have been taken hostage by Palestinian armed groups,” the statement added. “The taking of hostages is a violation of international law and constitutes an international crime. Persons deprived of liberty are protected against murder, torture, and cruel, inhuman or degrading treatment and sexual violence.”

Former South Carolina Governor Nikki Haley (R) sees the UNHRC as a “farce.”

“I saw it as ambassador firsthand & today is further proof,” Haley said in a post on X. “China & Cuba are human rights abusers, & today they won reelection to an entity that’s supposed to protect human rights. The UNHRC is a sham. It is not worthy of its name.”

Reporting from RT:

Militant group Hamas launched a massive attack on Israel on Saturday, firing thousands of rockets and briefly overrunning Israeli settlements bordering Gaza. According to the Israeli authorities, the attack and subsequent fighting have claimed the lives at least 900 Israelis, including 123 members of the Israel Defense Forces (IDF).

Israel responded to the attack with a massive bombing campaign against Gaza. The exclave’s Ministry of Health said at least 510 Palestinians have been killed and 2,751 injured in Israeli air raids, as of Monday.
