Director of National Intelligence Tulsi Gabbard commended President Donald Trump on Friday for his leadership in securing peace deals and said she has “cautious optimism” that he could broker an end to the Russia-Ukraine war.
Appearing on Fox News Channel’s The Will Cain Show, Gabbard acknowledged the difficulty of resolving the nearly three-year-old conflict but said Trump’s track record sets him apart. “President Trump… has made more progress and brought about more peace negotiations and peace deals than any other president, and in such a very short period of time,” she told Cain.
She emphasized that Trump is “very clear-eyed about how challenging this is” but remains uniquely positioned to deliver results. “If there is any person who can help usher in a true peace deal and an end to this bloody war between Russia and Ukraine, it is President Trump,” Gabbard said.
The comments come as Trump prepares for an August 15 summit in Alaska with Russian President Vladimir Putin, aimed at finding a resolution to the conflict. The planned meeting has drawn criticism from Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky, who insists that Kyiv must be part of any peace negotiations and has rejected any agreement involving ceding Ukrainian territory.
Gabbard’s praise highlights growing confidence among Trump allies that his diplomatic approach could succeed where previous efforts have failed. However, she cautioned that the complexity of the situation demands realism alongside optimism.
