President-elect Donald Trump’s transition team is considering a draft executive order that would establish a “warrior board” of former generals and military personnel to review three and four-star officers and recommend their removal.
The draft order, reviewed by The Wall Street Journal, would allow generals and admirals “lacking in requisite leadership qualities” to be removed and follow through on Trump’s goal to fire “woke generals.”
The order came from an outside policy group working with the transition team.
Trump-Vance Transition spokeswoman Karoline Leavitt told the WSJ, “The American people reelected President Trump by a resounding margin giving him a mandate to implement the promises he made on the campaign trail. He will deliver.”
An individual familiar with the development told the outlet that the Defense Department’s joint staff has “gotten way too big.”
“Trump also expects that many of the generals, the three- and four-star generals that have been underperforming will basically be retired,” the source said.
Trump previously said he would request that all generals involved in the 2021 Afghanistan withdrawal resign by “noon on Inauguration Day.”
