Trump Tariff Negotiations, 75 Countries Now Seeking Deals

President Donald Trump’s bold tariff strategy is shifting the global trade landscape. Over 75 countries are now actively pursuing negotiations with the United States—many of which had previously refused to engage.

Commerce Secretary Howard Lutnick revealed during a Cabinet meeting that countries are bringing unprecedented offers to the table. He credited Trump’s “Liberation Day” tariffs and his insistence on reciprocal treatment as the driving force behind this shift. “They have come with offers that they never, ever, ever would have come with but for the moves that the president has made,” Lutnick stated. He added that America is finally receiving the respect it deserves and forecasted a string of “historic deals.”

The White House announced that Trump paused new reciprocal tariffs for countries that have not retaliated, as a show of goodwill. At the same time, tariffs on Chinese imports surged to 125 percent, signaling a hard line against Beijing’s ongoing economic aggression.

In remarks earlier this week, Trump reiterated that his recent actions triggered a wave of outreach from foreign governments. “Virtually every country wants to negotiate,” Trump said. “If I didn’t do what I did over the last couple of weeks, you wouldn’t have anybody who wants to negotiate.”

Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth and Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent both supported the strategy. Bessent stated that the administration has now “created maximum negotiating leverage,” and is receiving a strong response from allies eager to negotiate in good faith.

The administration’s actions are intended to realign global trade practices, promote fairness, and protect American jobs. With a firm message of strength and clarity, Trump’s approach has triggered what could be the most significant reshaping of U.S. trade relationships in decades.
