President Donald Trump unveiled a groundbreaking initiative Tuesday to build colossal artificial intelligence (AI) data centers across the United States. Dubbed “Stargate,” the project will be the largest AI infrastructure effort in history, with an initial investment of $100 billion that could expand to $500 billion during Trump’s presidency.
The initiative is a partnership between the federal government, SoftBank, OpenAI, and Oracle. It aims to establish massive data centers designed to support the growing demand for AI technology. Trump emphasized that the project would generate thousands of American jobs and be housed in “big, beautiful buildings.”
The first data center will be constructed in Texas, with plans for additional locations in other states. Details regarding the timeline and subsequent locations are expected to be announced soon.
OpenAI CEO Sam Altman, Oracle CEO Larry Ellison, and SoftBank CEO Masayoshi Son joined Trump at the White House to launch the project. Trump praised their involvement, stating, “That’s a massive group of talent – and money.”
The Stargate initiative underscores the administration’s focus on technological innovation and job creation. It positions the United States to lead in AI development while bolstering infrastructure to support advancements in industries such as healthcare, defense, and manufacturing.
This ambitious effort highlights the Trump administration’s broader goals to solidify American leadership in technology, create economic opportunities, and strengthen national security by fostering a robust AI ecosystem.
