Trump Secures Release of American Woman Held by Taliban

President Donald Trump has successfully negotiated the release of Faye Hall, an American woman detained by the Taliban in Afghanistan for two months. With the support of Qatar, Hall became the fourth U.S. citizen freed by the militant group since Trump took office in January.

Hall was taken into custody on charges of unauthorized drone use. Following negotiations brokered by Qatar, she was released on March 27, 2025. Since the closure of the U.S. Embassy in Afghanistan in 2021, Qatar has served as the primary diplomatic representative for American interests in Kabul.

The Taliban agreed to release Hall after Trump removed multimillion-dollar bounties on senior members of the group. Following her release, Hall was taken to the Qatari Embassy, where officials confirmed she was in good health before making arrangements for her return to the U.S.

In a video shared by the White House, Hall expressed her gratitude to President Trump, stating, “I voted for you twice. I’m so glad you’re in office… Thank you for bringing me home.” She also revealed that women in the Afghan prison where she was held view Trump as their “savior,” hoping he will help secure their freedom as well.

Secretary of State Marco Rubio praised the efforts of the Qatari government and the European Union delegation in Kabul for assisting in Hall’s release. He reaffirmed the administration’s commitment to bringing all detained Americans home.

Hall’s release follows the recent return of American citizen George Glezmann, who had been held for two years. Within 24 hours of Trump’s inauguration, Americans Ryan Corbett and William McKenty were also freed, further demonstrating the administration’s commitment to securing the release of U.S. citizens held abroad.
