President Donald Trump on Sunday accused Sen. Adam Schiff (D-CA) of falsifying mortgage documents and demanded he face prison for what Trump described as a “real crime.”
Trump’s allegations, posted on Truth Social, claim Schiff manipulated loan documents to receive favorable mortgage terms under false pretenses. “Adam ‘Shifty’ Schiff is in BIG TROUBLE! He falsified Loan Documents. He once said my son would go to prison on a SCAM that Schiff, along with other Crooked Dems, illegally ‘manufactured’ in order to stage an actual coup,” Trump wrote. “Now Shifty should pay the price of prison for a real crime, not one made up by the corrupt accusers!”
Trump further claimed Schiff committed mortgage fraud by listing his Maryland home as a primary residence, despite being required to live in California as a congressman. “The FRAUD began with the refinance of his Maryland property on February 6, 2009, and continued through multiple transactions until the Maryland property was correctly designated as a second home on October 13, 2020,” Trump stated. He emphasized that mortgage fraud is a serious offense and that Schiff should be held accountable.
These accusations come amid heightened scrutiny of political figures and growing concern over ethical misconduct in Washington. Schiff, now a senator, has faced frequent criticism from Trump and Republicans for his leading role in the first impeachment proceedings.
In response, Schiff released a five-minute video dismissing Trump’s claims as “baseless.” He denied all allegations, including previous accusations of treason, and maintained that his loan documents were in order.
The controversy adds to a long-standing feud between Trump and Schiff, one that has spanned from impeachment trials to broader disputes over political integrity.
