Trump Says Iran Ceasefire is ‘Over’

President Trump said the ceasefire with Iran is over, although he will continue negotiations with the country.

When asked about the ceasefire, Trump said, “For me, I think it’s over.” He added, “It’s just a waste of time dealing with them.” Discussing the role of American representatives, he said, “They can talk, but I think they’re wasting their time.”

Meanwhile, NATO Secretary-General Mark Rutte said that new attacks on Iran were “absolutely necessary.”

“When you have a ceasefire and Iran is basically violating the ceasefire, I think it is totally crucial that the U.S. forcefully react,” he told reporters.

U.S. Central Command (CENTCOM) launched a new round of offensive strikes against Iran on July 7 in response to Iran’s attacks on commercial vessels in the Strait of Hormuz. “U.S. forces struck Iranian air defense systems, command and control networks, coastal radar sites, anti-ship missile capabilities, and more than 60 Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps small boats in and near the strait to degrade Iran’s ability to continue attacking international commerce flowing through the international trade corridor,” CENTCOM explained.

The U.S. Department of Treasury has also revoked a license issued to Iran. “Effective July 7, 2026, General License X, dated June 21, 2026, is revoked and superseded in its entirety by General License X1,” a letter from the Treasury’s Office of Foreign Assets Control (OFAC) read.

“Iran will only reap benefits if they exhibit good behavior,” an official told CNBC. “Iran’s actions in the Strait were wholly unacceptable to the United States and will be met with consequences.”
