President Donald Trump received the 2025 FIFA Peace Prize at the Kennedy Center in Washington, D.C., during the World Cup final draw.
The award recognizes President Trump’s “exceptional and extraordinary actions to promote peace and unity around the world,” said FIFA President Gianni Infantino.
“The FIFA Peace Prize is presented annually on behalf of the billions of football-loving people from around the world to a distinguished individual who exemplifies an unwavering commitment to advancing peace and unity throughout the world through their notable leadership and action,” Infantino added, reading from a certificate awarded to Trump.
“This is truly one of the great honors of my life,” Trump said upon accepting the award. “Beyond awards, Gianni and I were discussing this, we’ve saved millions and millions of lives… The fact that we could do that, so many wars we were able to end, in some cases, a little bit before they started, we got them done.”
President Trump announced in August that the 2026 FIFA World Cup will be held at the Kennedy Center. “The World Cup draw will set up the group stage of competition. Forty-eight teams will play in 104 games across 16 North American cities, from Seattle to Vancouver to Atlanta to Miami. It’s going to be so exciting for our country,” Trump said at the time. “The 2026 FIFA World Cup will be one of the largest and most complex events. This will be one of the greatest events, one of the largest. In a way, it’s like having many Super Bowls in a short period of time because each one of these games essentially is a Super Bowl. Some of them are bigger than Super Bowls, actually.”
The White House has also established the Task Force on the FIFA World Cup 2026.
