The United Arab Emirates president, His Highness Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, awarded President Donald Trump the highest civilian honor.
“In recognition of President Donald Trump’s exceptional efforts to strengthen the longstanding ties of friendship and strategic partnership between the United Arab Emirates and the United States of America, I am honored to announce that His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Al Nahyan bestows the Order of Zayed upon President Trump,” a woman said, announcing the award.
“The Order of Zayed is considered the highest civilian honour granted by the UAE, and is bestowed upon world leaders and heads of state,” a statement from the UAE’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs says. “The award bears the name of the UAE’s Founding Father, the late Sheikh Zayed, whose legacy of humanitarianism, international cooperation and the pursuit of peace continues to have an impact throughout the world today.”
In March, the UAE committed to investing $1.4 trillion in the United States over the next decade.
The investments followed President Donald Trump hosting the UAE’s national security adviser, Sheikh Tahnoon bin Zayed, and leaders of major UAE Sovereign Wealth Funds.
“These significant investments underscore the close ties between the United States and the United Arab Emirates,” the administration said.
A press release from the UAE Embassy in Washington, D.C. said of the meeting that Sheikh Tahnoon “expressed his thanks to the U.S. President for the warm reception and generous hospitality, reflecting the depth of the distinguished relations between the two friendly countries.”
“His Highness affirmed the UAE’s commitment to strengthening economic ties with the US by expanding partnerships and accelerating investments in key sectors like AI, technology, infrastructure, and healthcare,” the release added, noting that Sheikh Tahnoon “praised President Donald Trump’s leadership and economic policies, noting their significant role in stimulating foreign direct investment and fostering robust economic partnerships.”
