President Trump pulled his invitation for Canada to join the Board of Peace for Gaza after Prime Minister Mark Carney criticized U.S. leadership.
Addressing Carney in a statement on Truth Social, Trump wrote, “Please let this Letter serve to represent that the Board of Peace is withdrawing its invitation to you regarding Canada’s joining, what will be, the most prestigious Board of Leaders ever assembled, at any time.”
Carney stated during the World Economic Forum’s (WEF) summit in Davos, Switzerland, that “international rules‑based order” has become “fiction.”
“I will talk today about the breaking of the world order, the end of a pleasant fiction and the beginning of a brutal reality where the geopolitics of the great powers is not subject to any constraint,” he said. “Every day, we are reminded that we live in an era of great power rivalry. That the rules-based order is fading. That the strong do what they can, and the weak suffer what they must.”
Carney added, “Let me be direct: We are in the midst of a rupture, not a transition.”
The Canadian prime minister recently declared upon meeting with Chinese President Xi Jinping that a “new world order” is in progress. Attempting to explain his meaning of “new world order,” Carney told reporters that he believes “the world is still determining what that order is going to be.”
“What is going to govern global trade? What is the role of the [World Trade Organization] going to be? How important are bilateral deals, such as the one we’re developing?” he said.
