Roughly 1,700 National Guard troops are being deployed across 19 states as President Donald Trump intensifies efforts to crack down on illegal immigration and restore law and order in crime-ridden cities. The activation, stretching from August through mid-November, involves support roles for federal immigration enforcement while reinforcing visible deterrence.
States with activated National Guard troops include Alabama, Arkansas, Florida, Georgia, Idaho, Indiana, Iowa, Louisiana, Nebraska, Nevada, New Mexico, Ohio, South Carolina, South Dakota, Tennessee, Texas, Utah, Virginia, and Wyoming. According to Fox News, the soldiers will remain under their respective governors’ command throughout the operation.
A U.S. Defense official told Fox News the troops will assist U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) by performing non-combat roles such as case management, transportation, logistical support, and clerical work. Tasks will include collecting personal data, fingerprinting, DNA swabbing, and photographing migrants in ICE custody. The move bolsters a broader federal interagency effort aimed at reducing illegal immigration and improving public safety.
The mobilization follows President Trump’s recent executive actions targeting crime in Washington, D.C. As Breitbart News reported, violent crime in the capital dropped 22 percent in the past week. Trump invoked section 740 of the District of Columbia Home Rule Act, placing the D.C. Metropolitan Police Department under direct federal oversight and activating the National Guard to stabilize the city after a string of violent incidents, including the June 30 shooting death of a young congressional intern.
Meanwhile, immigration enforcement continues to accelerate. According to Breitbart, Trump administration officials are on pace to deport 400,000 illegal migrants during his first year back in office, signaling a sharp return to strong border enforcement and interior immigration control.
