President Donald Trump clarified his stance on Elon Musk and his companies, stating publicly that he does not intend to dismantle Musk’s enterprises despite their recent clash over government subsidies and legislation. Posting on Truth Social, Trump emphasized his support for American business success, writing, “I want Elon, and all businesses within our Country, to THRIVE, in fact, THRIVE like never before!”
This statement comes after weeks of escalating tension between Trump and Musk. The conflict began during debate over the “One Big Beautiful Bill,” a sweeping legislative package backed by Trump and opposed by Musk over spending concerns. After the bill’s passage, Musk floated the idea of forming a new political party—the “America Party”—to combat what he called excessive federal spending. Trump responded by labeling Musk a “train wreck.”
Earlier this month, Trump criticized Musk for benefiting from what he called “historic levels” of government subsidies. In a July 1 post, he claimed, “Elon may get more subsidy than any human being in history,” and suggested that the Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE) might audit contracts awarded to Musk’s companies, including SpaceX.
He also announced that xAI, Musk’s artificial intelligence company, should not receive government contracts. The move raised concerns about the potential for federal pressure against private companies critical of the administration’s policies.
Despite the heated rhetoric, Trump’s latest remarks may signal a softening approach. While reiterating concerns about excessive government spending, Trump emphasized that the success of American companies directly benefits the country. “The better they do, the better the USA does,” he posted.
Trump’s balancing act underscores his broader economic agenda—prioritizing government accountability while publicly supporting American innovation and entrepreneurship, especially in the tech and energy sectors that are key to the U.S. economy.
