Former President Donald Trump Holds 3-Point Lead Over President Joe Biden in North Carolina, Emerson College Poll Finds

According to the latest survey results from Emerson College Polling released on Wednesday regarding the 2024 general election, former President Donald Trump leads President Joe Biden by 3 points in North Carolina.

In a hypothetical matchup between the two major parties’ current front-runners, Trump garnered 47% support while Biden received 44% among North Carolina voters, with 10% remaining undecided.

When considering third-party candidates on the ballot, Trump maintains his lead over Biden, securing 46% to Biden’s 37%. Robert Kennedy Jr. garnered 5% support, while Cornel West and Jill Stein each received 1%, leaving 11% of voters undecided.

Among North Carolina independent voters, Trump leads Biden by 43% to 40%.

Emerson College Polling Executive Director Spencer Kimball noted, “A majority of voters under 30 break for President Biden over Trump, 53% to 35%, along with a plurality of voters in their 30s, 47% to 40%. Voters in their 40s are evenly split: 45% support each candidate. Voters over 50 support Trump over Biden, 52% to 40%.”

In additional hypothetical matchups, Trump leads Vice President Kamala Harris 50% to 41% and California Gov. Gavin Newsom 49% to 34%, according to Emerson’s findings.

The survey also delved into voters’ considerations regarding Biden’s age. Results showed that 58% of North Carolina voters expressed doubts about voting for Biden due to his age, while 42% indicated it was not a serious consideration.

Conducted from Feb. 14-16, the latest Emerson College Polling/The Hill North Carolina survey involved 1,000 registered voters in the state.
