Migrants detained under President Trump’s renewed immigration enforcement policies at Guantanamo Bay include convicted criminals with records of rape, child sexual abuse, murder, and drug trafficking, according to a recent Department of Homeland Security (DHS) press release. These individuals, all with final deportation orders, represent some of the most dangerous illegal aliens currently in U.S. custody.
DHS confirmed that nearly 30 high-threat criminal aliens are now being held at Gitmo, including individuals from El Salvador, Honduras, China, Vietnam, Romania, and other countries. Offenses range from lewd acts with minors to homicide and kidnapping for ransom.
Examples provided by DHS include Carlos Olivo Orellana and Franklin Almendarez-Alvarez—both convicted of sexual crimes involving minors. Others, such as Jin Feng Lu from China, have been convicted of murder, while multiple detainees from Vietnam face convictions for kidnapping and armed robbery.
DHS Assistant Secretary Tricia McLaughlin stated that Guantanamo Bay is now detaining “the worst of the worst,” emphasizing that President Trump and Secretary Kristi Noem are employing all available tools to remove violent illegal aliens from American communities.
The Biden administration faced backlash for releasing criminal aliens back into U.S. communities under so-called “sanctuary” policies. In stark contrast, the Trump administration is now using maximum enforcement at facilities like Guantanamo Bay to neutralize high-risk offenders.
McLaughlin stated, “Whether it is CECOT, Alligator Alcatraz, Guantanamo Bay or another detention facility, these dangerous criminals will not be allowed to terrorize U.S. citizens. Our message is clear: Criminals are not welcome in the United States.”
This move reflects President Trump’s broader effort to restore border security, dismantle sanctuary networks, and uphold law and order by targeting and isolating violent foreign criminals before deportation.
