Former Honduran President Juan Orlando Hernández was released from prison after being pardoned by President Donald Trump.
“God is faithful and never fails!” Hernández’s wife, Ana García, wrote on X. “Yesterday, Monday, December 1, 2025, we lived a day we will never forget. After nearly four years of pain, waiting, and difficult trials, my husband Juan Orlando Hernández RETURNED to being a free man, thanks to the presidential pardon granted by President Donald Trump.”
“Today we give thanks to God, because He is just and His timing is perfect. Thank you, Mr. President, for restoring our hope and for recognizing a truth that we always knew,” she wrote. “To all the friends who supported us, to those who never stopped praying, defending the truth, and believing in justice: this miracle is also yours. The truth always prevails. Justice always arrives.” She then quoted a Bible verse.
Hernández was sentenced to 45 years in prison on charges relating to aiding drug traffickers attempting to move cocaine into the United States.
President Trump declared last week that he would be “granting a Full and Complete Pardon to Former President Juan Orlando Hernandez who has been, according to many people that I greatly respect, treated very harshly and unfairly.”
When asked by reporters why he pardoned Hernández, Trump said, “I was asked by Honduras, many of the people of Honduras.” He explained, “The people of Honduras really thought he was set up, and it was a terrible thing. They basically said he was a drug dealer because he was the president of the country. And they said it was a Biden administration set-up. And I looked at the facts and I agreed with them.”
