Trump Administration Scrubs Biden’s Office of Gun Violence Prevention

The White House website for the Office of Gun Violence Prevention, established during former President Joe Biden’s term, has been removed under President Donald Trump’s administration. The absence of the office from the site has led many to believe it has been disbanded entirely.

Gun control advocacy groups quickly voiced their disapproval. Everytown for Gun Safety, affiliated with billionaire activist Mike Bloomberg, posted concerns online, while Moms Demand Action criticized the apparent decision.

Moms Demand Action stated:

“Just hours after being sworn into office, it appears the Trump Administration has dissolved the first-ever White House Office of Gun Violence Prevention. Given Trump’s well-documented allegiance to the gun lobby, this move comes as no surprise, but it serves as a stark reminder that we must do all we can to preserve the progress that we’ve made on gun safety over the past decade.”

Meanwhile, pro-Second Amendment organizations such as Gun Owners of America (GOA) celebrated the removal. GOA praised the move, viewing it as a victory for gun rights advocates.

President Trump reaffirmed his commitment to the Second Amendment during his speech at the NRA’s Dallas convention on May 18, 2024. He told attendees:

“Let there be no doubt, the survival of our Second Amendment is very much on the ballot. It’s under siege.”

Trump emphasized the importance of the Second Amendment for personal safety, stating, “We need it for safety. Because you know the bad guys are not giving up their guns.”

The move underscores the contrasting views on gun control between the Trump and Biden administrations.
