President Donald Trump has called on Washington, D.C., Mayor Muriel Bowser to eliminate the city’s homeless encampments, particularly those near the State Department and the White House. He warned that if local authorities fail to act, the federal government will intervene.
Trump took to Truth Social, writing, “We have notified the Mayor of Washington, D.C., that she must clean up all of the unsightly homeless encampments in the City, specifically including the ones outside of the State Department, and near the White House.”
Trump emphasized the need for a clean and safe capital, also writing, “If she is not capable of doing so, we will be forced to do it for her! Washington, D.C., must become CLEAN and SAFE! We want to be proud of our Great Capital again. Thank you Mayor Bowser for your efforts on behalf of the Citizens of our Country. Hopefully you will be successful!”
President Trump’s proposal also includes prosecuting minor offenses, such as public urination, and increasing efforts to protect national monuments. This initiative aligns with his earlier commitment to enhance public safety and beautify the city.
In December, Trump and Mayor Bowser met at Mar-a-Lago to discuss shared priorities, including infrastructure and the utilization of underused federal buildings. “President Trump and I both want Washington, D.C., to be the best, most beautiful city in the world and we want the capital city to reflect the strength of our nation,” Bowser shared.
Trump’s demand highlights the failure of Democrat-led cities to address homelessness, crime, and urban decay. As the capitol, Washington, D.C., should represent the strength and dignity of America.
