Trump Committed to ‘Largest Tax Cut in History’ for Middle-Class Americans

President Donald Trump met with Republican House leaders to discuss his tax plans.

Discussing the matter with House Speaker Mike Johnson, Majority Leader Steve Scalise, Majority Whip Tom Emmer, and other leaders, Trump outlined his commitment to no tax on tips, no tax on Social Security for seniors, adjusting the SALT cap, and other priorities.

“These are the tax priorities of the Trump administration that the President has laid out for members in that meeting today: no tax on tips, which is obviously a very public campaign promise that the President made; no tax on seniors’ Social Security; no tax on overtime pay; and renewing President Trump’s 2017 middle-class tax cuts,” Leavitt told reporters.

“Again, these are the President’s priorities: adjusting the SALT cap, eliminating all the special tax breaks for billionaire sports team owners, closing the carried interest tax deduction loophole, and providing tax cuts for Made in America products. This will be the largest tax cut in history for middle-class working Americans. The President is committed to working with Congress to get this done.”

Trump’s meeting with House GOP leaders comes as they are weighing a one-bill budget plan.

Rep. Chip Roy (R-TX) said he is looking for a deal to reduce the federal government’s budget deficit.

“What matters is the total package, adding up what we expect to occur based on all of the variables – tax policy, regulatory policies, all those things – what kind of cuts do we achieve, and then what does that do to the deficit? That’s what’s driving my consideration,” he said.
