Trump Celebrates His ‘Truth Social’ App Being ‘Number One in the Apple App Store!’

Trump’s ‘Truth Social’ beats Twitter for the top spot.

QUICK FACTS:
  • President Donald J. Trump on Tuesday celebrated his social media app’s ascension to the number one spot on the Apple App Store’s “Top Free Apps” ranking.
  • “Truth Social is number ONE in the Apple App Store!” Trump said, as his app beat both Twitter and LiveIn—a photo sharing platform—for the top spot.
  • President Trump displayed a screenshot of the Apple App Store ranking along with the announcement.
ABOUT ‘TRUTH SOCIAL’:

Truth Social is “America’s ‘Big Tent’ social media platform that encourages an open, free, and honest global conversation without discriminating against political ideology,” the app’s website reads.

BACKGROUND:
  • Despite securing the Apple App Store’s number one spot for free apps, shares of Digital World Acquisition Corp (DWAC)—the SPAC backing Trump’s media venture—fell 13% to $35.71. DWAC’s stock price was cut in half this the past month, as it was trading at around $72 per share on March 24.
  • Musk’s recent acquisition of Twitter might also spell doom for Truth Social because Trump’s platform was formed as a direct result of Trump being banned from Twitter, as pointed out by Vanity Fair’s Bess Levin. Musk could allow the 45th President back on the platform after all, rendering Trump’s app redundant. Moreover, Truth Social promoted itself as a sanctuary for conservatives and free speech, something that Musk has promised to make Twitter.
