Trump Brings Back Presidential Fitness Test to Save America’s Youth

President Trump signed an executive order to reimplement the Presidential Fitness Test across U.S. schools.

“As the United States prepares to celebrate its semiquincentennial anniversary in 2026, we must address the threat to the vitality and longevity of our country that is posed by America’s declining health and physical fitness,” the order says. “For far too long, the physical and mental health of the American people has been neglected. Rates of obesity, chronic disease, inactivity, and poor nutrition are at crisis levels, particularly among our children. These trends weaken our economy, military readiness, academic performance, and national morale.”

The order expands upon Trump’s Make America Healthy Again Commission, which is described as having been created to “restore the urgency of improving the health of Americans.” Trump’s order further declares that it seeks to “revitalize” the President’s Council on Sports, Fitness, and Nutrition as a “cornerstone of our national health renewal.”

Trump announced the order surrounded by golfer Bryson DeChambeau, former New York Giants linebacker Lawrence Taylor, and Kansas City Chiefs kicker Harrison Butker.

“We have an opportunity at being the 70th anniversary of the President’s Council on Sports, Fitness and Nutrition, to literally change the fabric of kids’ lives,” DeChambeau said. “And our first initiative is to bring back and reignite the President’s Fitness Test and then also reestablish some key other metrics on guidelines around building some communities.”

Butker said he was “excited to do my part to help make America healthy again, to help our youth be healthy and thrive and grow up and be great citizens of this country and great members and contribute to this great country,” adding, “You have to be strong in mind, body, and soul.”
