The Trump administration is hosting the Shield of the Americas Summit in Doral, Florida, on March 7. Secretary of State Marco Rubio will join President Trump at the event, where the United States will welcome its “strongest likeminded allies in our hemisphere to promote freedom, security, and prosperity in our region.”
The “historic coalition” will “work together to advance strategies that stop foreign interference in our hemisphere, criminal and narco-terrorist gangs and cartels, and illegal and mass immigration,” the State Department said.
The summit follows Rubio announcing that he will be working alongside Kristi Noem, now the Special Envoy for The Shield of the Americas, which Rubio described as “our new security initiative comprised of 13 countries.”
“Kristi has achieved incredible results as Secretary of Homeland Security and will be a tremendous asset in our effort to promote security and prosperity in the Western Hemisphere,” he wrote on X.
Detailing the new position, Noem wrote that she will work alongside U.S. leaders to “dismantle cartels that have poured drugs into our nation and killed our children and grandchildren.”
“The Western Hemisphere is absolutely critical for U.S. security,” she noted. “In this new role, I will be able to build on the partnerships and national security expertise, I forged over the last 13 months as Secretary of Homeland Security.”
In sharing Noem’s departure from the Department of Homeland Security, President Trump said on Truth Social, “The current Secretary, Kristi Noem, who has served us well, and has had numerous and spectacular results (especially on the Border!), will be moving to be Special Envoy for The Shield of the Americas, our new Security Initiative in the Western Hemisphere we are announcing on Saturday in Doral, Florida. I thank Kristi for her service at ‘Homeland.’”
Senator Markwayne Mullin (R-OK) is poised to become the new DHS Secretary.
