Treasury Secretary Janet Yellen Says U.S. to Give Billions More to Ukraine

Treasury Secretary Janet Yellen said the United States will be giving Ukraine billions more in aid in the near future.

QUICK FACTS:
  • Last week, U.S. Treasury Secretary Janet Yellen announced the government would be providing $10 billion in taxpayer dollars to Ukraine “in coming months.”
  • “The United States and our allies are proud to support the Ukrainian people’s fight for freedom,” Yellen said at the G-20 finance summit in India.
  • Yellen claimed U.S. funding was necessary and essential to keep the Ukranian government running.
  • “The United States has provided over $46 billion in security, economic, and humanitarian assistance to Ukraine. Our military assistance includes key defensive weapons that Ukraine has asked for — such as the Patriot missile defense system. And our economic assistance is making Ukraine’s resistance possible by supporting the home front: funding critical public services and helping keep the government running,” the secretary continued.
  • “In the coming months, we expect to provide around $10 billion in additional economic support for Ukraine.”
TREASURY SECRETARY JANET YELLEN ON “LASTING” U.S. SUPPORT TOWARDS UKRAINE:

“Let me make clear, the United States and the allies, our support for Ukraine will be lasting and is unconditional. We stand with Ukraine and want to support Ukraine,” Yellen said.

BACKGROUND:
  • Last week, President Biden approved a $2 billion military aid package for Ukraine, including high-tech drones and ammunition on the first anniversary of Russia’s invasion of the country.
  • “Today, on the one-year anniversary of Russia’s invasion, the United States is announcing a series of additional actions to continue providing Ukraine with the support it needs and holding Russia accountable for its war of aggression,” a White House statement said.
  • According to some estimates, the latest shipment of weapons brings the total amount of security assistance the U.S. has provided to over $32 billion. However, Fox News’ Tucker Carlson estimates the figure is closer to $200 billion.
  • Representative Marjorie Taylor Greene (R-GA) introduced a resolution to investigate where America’s aid toward Ukraine is going.
  • “Our country is run by stupid warmongers that are so clueless and disconnected with what the American people want that they are literally leading us into World War 3. That’s why I’m introducing a resolution to find out exactly where OUR money is going,” Greene said.
