Trans Powerlifter Beats Female Competition, Sets New Record

A 40-year-old transgender woman, a biological male, beat his female competition in a powerlifting event.

Anne Andres won the Canadian Powerlifting Union’s 2023 Western Canadian Championship.

Andres lifted a combined 1,317 pounds.

Second-place finisher SuJan Gil lifted 854 pounds.

Andres’ total set a new Candian record and women’s world record.

The International Consortium on Female Sport (ICFS) is not recognizing Andres’ total, writing on Twitter, “This is NOT a legitimate National Record. This is a mediocre lift by a mediocre male who is being allowed to lift because…hair color?”

Andres posted on social media following his victory, “Today I did some lifting. Not just some lifting. I got to lift with friends from across Canada. Friends who welcome me and love me and want me to be there. Friends who support trying to be the best me. I couldn’t ask for more than that, could I?”

Reporting from The Blaze:

The powerlifter was also met with tough competition in March 2023 when a male powerlifting coach showed up at the same competition as Andres, where seemingly anyone could compete. The coach proceeded to shatter Andres' records.

Avi Silverberg, a former head coach for Team Canada Powerlifting, casually beat Andres' bench press record by nearly 100 pounds right in front of him.
