Gay Couple Leaves Infant in Hot Car

Two adoptive gay men left a baby girl in a hot car for hours, leading to her death.

Two-month-old Diana Sofia de Los Santos was discovered unconscious in the back of the car.

Diana was unconscious when a family member found her in the car on June 13 just before 12:30 am, according to the Daily Mail. After contacting first responders, she was transported to the adjacent Sharp Grossmont Hospital. A short while after, Diana was declared dead.

She had been left in the car for several hours, it was later discovered. It was well over 100F inside, even though the outside temperature was just about 63F.

What they said they hoped to do in their profile was “raise healthy, responsible, and most importantly, kind adults.”

The couple, married in 2008, “seem like a nice family who wanted to give a couple of kids a good life,” according to neighbors, who spoke to the Daily Mail. “It’s just a shame it didn’t turn out that way.”

While the California gay couple adopted the infant, the state requires foster families to “demonstrate an ability and willingness to meet the needs of the child regardless of the child’s sexual orientation, gender identity, or gender expression.”

California state Sen. Scott Wiener announced Senate Bill 407’s passing in September, claiming that his bill to “ensure foster parents understand the need to support LGBTQ foster youth.”
