Texas Republican Moves to Condemn Imam Who Celebrated Lindsey Graham’s Death

A representative is planning to introduce a resolution to condemn the co-founder of the Yaqeen Institute for Islamic Research, Omar Suleiman, after he celebrated the death of Lindsey Graham.

Rep. Beth Van Duyne (R-TX) told Fox News that Congress has a responsibility to condemn his message.

“In other news, Lindsey Graham is dead,” Suleiman wrote on social media after hearing about Graham’s death. “Bye Lindsey. May you live an eternity in ruins for the ruins you helped create in Gaza. Ameen.”

“This type of action from a religious leader that claims to preach about love and not hate needs to be condemned,” Van Duyne told the outlet in an interview. “That was anything but love. That was depravity. Is this really what you believe—that you’re going to take a sitting senator who has just died, and you’re going to condemn his soul to an eternity of ruins because you don’t agree with his politics?”

“It needs to be condemned by those Democrats who called him to the House floor to preach,” she explained. “I would love to be able to get Democrats who are on the floor who don’t agree that this is the type of action that a religious leader should take.”

Van Duyne added that she believed it to be “very important” to highlight that Suleiman’s comment showcases a “hatred of people.”

Republican South Carolina Governor Henry McMaster has since chosen Republican Senator Lindsey Graham’s sister, Darline Graham Nordone, to fill her late brother’s seat.

“I want to thank the governor for selecting me to serve the remainder of Lindsey’s term. It is such an honor,” Graham Nordone said. “Lindsey has always been there for me, and now I will be there for him. My brother was the most amazing person, outstanding leader, and just a genuinely good man. He was kind and considerate and loved by his family dearly.”
