Texas Migrant Bus Arrives in Los Angeles

The City of Los Angeles is reportedly prepared.

QUICK FACTS:
  • Texas Governor Greg Abbott (R) announced that a migrant bus has arrived at LA Union Station.
  • “Texas’ small border towns remain overwhelmed and overrun by the thousands of people illegally crossing into Texas from Mexico because of President Biden’s refusal to secure the border,” said Governor Abbott in a press release.
  • The Texas governor continued, “Los Angeles is a major city that migrants seek to go to, particularly now that its city leaders approved its self-declared sanctuary city status. Our border communities are on the frontlines of President Biden’s border crisis, and Texas will continue providing this much-needed relief until he steps up to do his job and secure the border.”
  • Other migrant bus locations for drop-off include Washington, D.C., New York City, Chicago, Philadelphia, and Denver.
  • Since starting the migrant bus drop-offs, more than 21,600 migrants have been transported out of Texas and into sanctuary cities.
LA MAYOR RESPONDS:
  • “This evening, more than 40 people were sent by the Governor of Texas to our City of Los Angeles. Shortly after I took office, I directed City Departments to begin planning for an event like this. This did not catch us off guard. We are now executing our plan,” Los Angeles Mayor Karen Bass tweeted.
  • “Los Angeles is not a city motivated by hate or fear and we absolutely will not be swayed or moved by petty politicians playing with human lives,” Bass continued. “For everything that we do, we will continue to lock arms and we will continue to lead—and we will always put people’s health and wellbeing over politics.”
  • In a press release, the mayor claimed, “It is abhorrent that an American elected official is using human beings as pawns in his cheap political games.
BACKGROUND:
  • On June 14, Gov. Abbott signed four laws to take action against the national fentanyl crisis.
  • “The fentanyl epidemic has taken far too many innocent lives, but thanks to the work by brave parents and loved ones, like those here today, we have made Texans aware of this crisis,” the governor stated.
  • “These four laws will forever change Texas through new protections that will help save lives. In 2022, more than 2,000 people died from fentanyl in Texas—or more than five a day. It is the No. 1 killer of Americans ages 18-45,” his statement continued.
  • “And as I noted at our fentanyl summit a few months ago, just one pill kills. In my State of the State address at the beginning of this session, I made curbing the fentanyl epidemic an emergency item. Today, I am signing four new laws that will save countless lives.”
