Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton has launched a major investigation into noncitizen voting in the 2020 and 2022 election cycles.
“Illegal aliens and foreign nationals must not be allowed to influence Texas elections by casting illegal ballots with impunity. I will not allow it to continue,” Paxton said in a statement. “Thanks to President Trump’s decisive action to help states safeguard the ballot box, this investigation will help Texas hold noncitizens accountable for unlawfully voting in American elections. If you’re a noncitizen who illegally cast a ballot, you will face the full force of the law.”
The investigation expands upon one Paxton launched in June after 33 purported noncitizens participated in the 2024 General Election. The information was revealed after Texas gained access to the U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Service’s SAVE Database as enabled under an order from President Donald Trump.
Paxton has also released information on the indictments and arrests of nine individuals involved in a vote-harvesting scheme as part of his efforts to restore election integrity.
“Under my watch, attempts to rig elections and silence the will of the voters will be met with the full force of the law,” he said upon releasing the information. “I will continue to fight to ensure Texas has free and fair elections and work with Frio County District Attorney Audrey Louis to ensure justice is served in this case.”
Those arrested in the scheme included Chief of Staff to Texas State Rep. Elizabeth Campos, Manuel Medina, Frio County Commissioner for Precinct 3 Raul Carrizales, Former Dilley Mayor MaryAnn Obregon, and Former Dilley City Councilmember Inelda Rodriguez, and others.
