Texas Gov. Abbott To Bus Migrants to Washington, D.C.

Texas Republican Governor Greg Abbott announces new plan to bus migrants crossing border to nation’s capital.

QUICK FACTS:
  • Governor Abbott revealed a new plan Wednesday that involves sending migrants who have come into the U.S. to D.C. on buses.
  • “They themselves have been putting these migrants on buses to San Antonio. So I’ve got a better idea. As opposed to busing these people to San Antonio, let’s continue the ride all the way to Washington, D.C.,” the governor said.
  • Additionally, Abbott announced three other executive orders to confront the ongoing crisis at the border, including adding boat blockades along stretches of the Rio Grande River and placing razor wire in low water crossings.
  • “We have more people who will potentially be crossing our border illegally by the end of this year than live in Los Angeles, America’s second-largest city,” Abbott said.
GOV. ABBOTT ON BIDEN ALLOWING ILLEGAL ALIENS INTO THE COUNTRY:

“The Biden Administration will be able to more immediately address the needs of the people that they’re allowing to come across our border.”

BACKGROUND:
  • Abbott said the southern border is expected to see up to 18,000 migrants a day in the coming months, totaling over 540,000 each month.
  • Also part of Abbott’s initiative is mobilizing the Texas National Guard, who will be provided with riot gear to gain control over violence at the border.
