Telegram founder Pavel Durov announced Wednesday a groundbreaking partnership with Elon Musk’s xAI, bringing the AI chatbot Grok to Telegram’s 1 billion users worldwide. The one-year deal will integrate Grok across all Telegram apps starting in summer 2025, offering features like message summaries, document analysis, question answering, and even chat moderation.
Telegram will receive $300 million in cash and equity from xAI, plus 50% of the revenue generated from xAI subscriptions sold via Telegram. The move comes as Telegram continues its meteoric rise, recently hitting 1 billion monthly active users.
Grok, first launched on X (formerly Twitter) in March for premium users, will now be pinned and accessible across Telegram, including in search, chat summaries, and message editing tools. The partnership is part of Musk’s broader strategy to merge xAI’s cutting-edge models with X’s massive user base, following a March announcement that xAI had acquired X in an all-stock deal valuing xAI at $80 billion and X at $33 billion.
Musk has described the combination of xAI and X as a way to “unlock immense potential” by merging data, models, and talent to create smarter and more meaningful user experiences. The Telegram partnership extends that vision, embedding Grok’s AI capabilities into the everyday communication of over a billion users.
As AI becomes an integral part of major platforms, this collaboration marks a significant step toward shaping the future of global communication.
