Senator Ted Cruz (R-TX) issued a sharp warning during an appearance on Fox News’ Hannity, stating that if socialist candidate Zohran Mamdani becomes mayor of New York City, the city will face a dramatic increase in violent crime. Cruz tied Mamdani’s anti-police platform to broader Democratic policies that he says embolden criminals and endanger American cities.
Cruz’s comments followed a recent Midtown Manhattan shooting that has intensified scrutiny of the city’s leadership and law enforcement policies. Cruz argued that restoring order requires supporting law enforcement and protecting Second Amendment rights.
“If you want to stop violent crime, the way you do it is you support law enforcement,” Cruz said. “These are the same Democrats that spent four years with wide-open borders. They were perfectly happy to have 12 million illegal immigrants flood into this country.”
Cruz sharply criticized Senate Democrats for what he described as prioritizing illegal immigration over public safety. “They fly down to El Salvador and have daiquiris with MS-13 members,” Cruz said, accusing them of advocating for policies that bring more violent criminals into the U.S.
He then turned his focus to Mamdani, a self-identified socialist and New York State Assembly member, who has openly called for abolishing the NYPD. “You put up comrade Mamdani… what he wants to do is abolish the New York Police Department,” Cruz said. “Well, there will be a whole lot more murders in New York City if comrade Mamdani is elected.”
Cruz argued that Mamdani and his political allies are more interested in dismantling constitutional rights than protecting citizens. “They’re perfectly fine with that as long as he gets to take away your constitutional rights,” he added.
Cruz’s remarks come as Democrats continue to push anti-police rhetoric and soft-on-crime policies, raising serious concerns among Republicans and law enforcement supporters nationwide.
